Welcome!
- The Big Picture Book is intended to serve as both a catalog of virus pictures on the WWW and as an educational resource to those seeking more information about viruses. To this end, it is intimately linked to All the Virology on the WWW, and our collection of Virology Courses and Tutorials.
There are several ways to access the information in the Big Picture Book of Viruses. All viruses are listed according to the family to which they have been assigned by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). The images and other data can be obtained by the routes listed at the left.
What you can find here:
On this page, several types of information about viruses can be found. First and foremost, we show you what they look like, either by electron microscopy or by computerassisted imaging. The viral images are listed by their taxonomic groups. Images listed have been gathered from several well known sources on the web. Each image is presented in a miniature format on this page, with the original fullsized image being available by simply clicking on the image of interest. (Note: if the original image has moved, please contact me for assistance) Also listed on the page are links to detailed information (Tutorials and On-Line Courses) about the viruses, and links to other WWW sites (All the Virology on the WWW) with additional information.
